Meet the Professor

Meet the Professor 1: Diabetes Day 2, October 28(Fri), 2022 / 08:30-09:20 / Room 1 Overview
Organizer: In-Kyung JEONG (Kyung Hee University, Korea)
Dr. Ralph A. DEFRONZO is a renowned expert in the field of pathogenesis and treatment of type 2 diabetes and the central role of insulin resistance in metabolic syndrome. He is a leader in developing the concept of insulin resistance and defining the biochemical and molecular disturbances in type 2 diabetes through clinical trials and animal studies. He published more than 800 papers in peer review journals. He received many awards for his diabetes research from American Diabetes Association and European Association for the study of diabetes. He has been the Joe R. & Teresa Lozano Long Distinguished Chair in Diabetes in the Long School of Medicine at UT Health San Antonio since 1988.
In the Meet the Professor 1 session, he will give a lecture about “Prediabetes: Time to Treat”. This live session will include ample time for questions and answers between you and the expert. We hope you get a lot of insights into diabetes through this session.

Chairperson : Nam Han CHO (Preventative Medicine & Public Health, Ajou University, Korea)

Meet the Professor 2: Adrenal Day 3, October 29(Sat), 2022 / 08:30-09:20 / Room 1 Overview
Organizer: Jung Hee KIM (Seoul National University, Korea)
The recent next-generation sequencing technique and development of highly specific monoclonal antibodies against aldosterone synthase (CYP11B2) led to CYP11B2-immunohistochemistry guided sequencing analysis using DNA from formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissues of aldosterone-producing adenomas (APAs). Accordingly, the majority of APAs appear to harbor a somatic mutation in one of the aldosterone-driver genes, including KCNJ5, ATP1A1, ATP2B3, CACNA1D, CACNA1H, and CLCN2. Accumulating evidence suggests that race and sex impact the somatic mutation spectrum of APAs. In the Meet the Professor 2 session for adrenal diseases, Professor William Rainey from the University of Michigan, a renowned researcher in this field, will provide insight into the genetic causes of primary aldosteronism and the potential roles of race and sex on the pathophysiology of APA as well as possible clinical implications.

Chairperson : Doo Man KIM (Hallym University, Korea)

Meet the Professor 3: Bone Day 3, October 29(Sat), 2022 / 08:30-09:20 / Room 2 Overview
Organizer: Yumie RHEE (Yonsei University, Korea)
Now, the era of making treatment decision only with the BMD T score has passed, and a lot of experts and academic societies are suggesting that it is necessary to classify and treat the ultra-high fracture risk group that fractures easily, by referring to FRAX score, the degree of future risk of fracture. Therefore, we can expect that this lecture can provide guidelines on how to classify patients with osteoporosis according to the degree of risk of fracture. The short-term and long-term treatment strategies will of course be different depending on the risk, and in the Meet the Professor 3 session, Prof. Serge FERRARI will deal with the topic of how we can establish the treatment plan based on which clinical evidence data, because the effect of treatment can become very different by, for example, the order of each treatment n, etc, compared to simple therapeutic for osteoporosis in the past.

Chairperson : Chan Soo SHIN (Seoul National University, Korea)
